1. You will take at least four test before you believe you are actually pregnant. I think I took six different test by the time I believed I was really pregnant. I even gave in and bought the expensive digital week predictor and still made the doctor give me a blood test lol.
2. Morning sickness starts randomly out of nowhere when you least expect it and it sucks. I can tell you the exact day morning sickness started I was 5 weeks and at work of all places. I was one of those unlucky women who had morning sickness every single day until I was at least 15 weeks. It got to the point where the bed, water, and a movie was my favorite weekend activity.
3.When you go for early scans you won’t recognize your baby. Do not panic, the earlier the scan the less you see. When I first got a scan they could only see a fetal pole and sac and told me it could be empty and to come back in a week to see if there was any growth. Sure enough a week later there was the tiniest spec ever with a little heart beat. After that, I made the personal decision not to get anymore ultrasounds until I was 12 weeks.
4. STAY OFF GOOGLE!! I have to remind myself everyday google is not your friend, my obsession is not as bad as it was in the beginning.
5. If you opt to have the different scans it is hard not to think about the results. The scans are both beneficial and give you an insight on the health of your baby, but if you tend to worry and overthink like me be sure you’re up for the two-week long wait for the results. I think waiting for the results of my nuchal translucency scan and blood work was the hardest. The 20-week anatomy scan was more exciting because they fully examine if your baby is growing and developing properly you can find out the sex.
6. There is no perfect time to share the news about your new addition. This was a tough one, as much as I wanted to scream it to the top of my lungs my boyfriend and I decided early on to keep the news to ourselves and that was HARD. Imagine how many lies I had to tell just so people wouldn’t ask why I wasn’t drinking.
7. Fatigue is real. If I can give you one piece of advice is get all the rest you can.
8. It goes by fast. This one is different depending on who you ask, but for me, I feel like my first trimester went by fast, maybe because I waited so long to get scans or because by the time I shared the exciting news I was already almost 20 weeks pregnant.
